Planning MDS admission in a deemed university can be confusing because the fee varies from college to college and also from one speciality to another. Some branches are comparatively affordable, while clinical branches in reputed deemed universities can have a higher annual fee.

My counselling note: Do not decide only by looking at the annual tuition fee. For MDS, you must compare the fee, branch, patient flow, stipend, instruments, hostel, location, and your long-term clinical plan.

Overview — MDS in Deemed Universities

Deemed universities have become popular among MDS aspirants because many of these institutions have modern infrastructure, good departments, research facilities, experienced faculty, and better clinical exposure in selected branches. And most of the deemed dental colleges secure the top ranks in the NIRF ranking list.

But the fee structure is not the same for every college or speciality. Conservative Dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, Prosthodontics, and Pedodontics usually have higher demand, and in many colleges, these branches can also have a higher fee compared to non-clinical or less competitive branches.

Admission to MDS seats in deemed universities is done through All India counselling conducted by MCC/DGHS through the official MCC counselling portal. So, students must qualify for NEET MDS and participate in MCC counselling for deemed university seats.

2. Extra Costs Apart from the Tuition Fee

When you plan the budget for MDS in a deemed university, do not calculate only the annual tuition fee. You should also consider hostel, mess, instrument, and material costs, exam and university fees, deposits, and day-to-day living expenses.

Hostel & Food

Depending on the college and city, hostel and food expenses can add significantly to your MDS budget.

Instruments & Materials

MDS is a practical-oriented course. Clinical branches may require additional instruments, materials, and lab-related expenses.

Other Charges

University fee, exam fee, caution deposit, and miscellaneous charges may vary from college to college.

3. Eligibility for MDS Admission in Deemed Universities

To get MDS admission in a deemed university, the student must complete BDS from a recognized dental college, complete the compulsory internship within the required timeline, qualify for NEET MDS, and participate in MCC counselling.

Seat allotment is based on NEET MDS rank, choices filled by the candidate, available seats, reservation/category rules wherever applicable, and MCC counselling rules for that admission year.

FAQ on MDS Fee Structure in Deemed Universities

How much does MDS cost in deemed universities?

The cost depends on the college and speciality. Clinical branches in reputed deemed universities are usually costlier than non-clinical branches. Students should calculate the total three-year cost, not just the annual fee.

How do I get MDS admission in a deemed university?

You must qualify NEET MDS and participate in All India counselling conducted by MCC for deemed university seats. Admission is based on rank, choices filled and seat availability.

Are hostel and other charges included in the fee table?

Usually, fee tables mainly show tuition fee. Hostel, food, instruments, deposits, exam fee and other charges may be extra depending on the college.

Should I choose the cheapest deemed university for MDS?

Not always. A lower fee is useful, but you should also check branch quality, patient flow, faculty, academic environment, location, stipend and long-term career value.

Final Note

Deemed dental colleges contribute to a major portion of MDS seats in India and can be a good option for students who plan carefully. But the fee can be high, and additional expenses can increase the total cost.

Before final choice filling, compare the total fee, branch value, patient exposure, stipend, extra charges, and your plans. A college that looks expensive on paper may be worth it for one student, while the same choice may not be ideal for another student.
