❓ What Are Deemed Medical Colleges?

Deemed Medical Colleges are private medical colleges that have special status from the Indian Government.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted the status of “Deemed-to-be-University” under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. This means they can run like independent universities.

📋 Admission Procedure for Deemed Colleges

Here, I will just give you a brief about the admission or counselling procedure for joining any medical college in India for MBBS or PG medical courses.

I am not going too deep into the admission process; this will just give you a basic idea.

All admissions to Deemed Universities are conducted through centralized counseling by MCC (Medical Counselling Committee), which comes under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India.

Step 1: Qualifying NEET-UG Examination

Every aspirant must qualify for the NEET-UG/PG examination. Only those who have the minimum required percentile, 50% for the General Category and 40% for the Reserved categories, are eligible for counseling.

If you are looking for Super Specialty admissions to deemed colleges, then you must attend the NEET-SS exam.

The NEET score is the main determinant for admission; the highest scores mean better options.

Step 2: Registration on the MCC Website

You have to go to the MCC portal (www.mcc.nic.in), register by paying the counseling fee along with a refundable security deposit(which will be refundable), and fill in your preferences for colleges and courses.

Once the registration is done, you have to upload your documents and a few details. Those details and documents will be verified.

Step 3: Choice Filling & Locking

Analyze the seat matrix, fees, location, and previous year cutoffs, and you have to fill in the choices that you are interested.

That means you have to choose the institution of your choice first. Then, once you have made up your mind to lock those choices, you have to click on Choice Locking and lock the choices.

Once locked, the choices cannot be changed for that round.

Step 4: Seat Allotment

Based on merit, i.e., your NEET rank, reservation, and preferences, seats will be allotted. In case if you haven’t been allotted a seat, then you can attend the next round of counselling.

You can either accept the seat and proceed with reporting to the college or go for a further round.

Step 5: Reporting to the College

Once you have been allotted a seat, you must physically report to the respective college with all your original documents and pay the required fees. Failure to do so will lead to seat cancellation.

🗒️ Documents Required

These are the documents that are mandatorily needed for NEET counselling. Depending on the counselling type, they will ask for extra documents too.

  • NEET Admit Card.
  • NEET Rank Card.
  • Class 10 Marksheet + Passing Certificate.
  • Class 12 Marksheet + Passing Certificate.
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable).
  • Transfer Certificate.
  • Migration Certificate.
  • Aadhar Card.
  • Recent Passport-size Photos (6-8).
  • Allotment Letter from MCC.

Tip: Keep 3-4 photocopies of each document. Some colleges ask for extra copies during verification.
